How’s My Driving?
Posted on 16-04-2011
I’ve been noticing lately that a lot of buses and large trucks have now got yellow “How’s my driving” stickers on the back, and a number to call in case of complaints. I thought to myself “Who on earth would bother calling a number to file a complaint?” and sure enough I found out the hard way when some lunatic bus cut across my lane on Emirates Road a few weeks back. Now I would have usually just put this down to the fact that the driver probably got his license from a packet of Paan Parag and didn’t actually know a thing about road etiquette, but I decided that I was going to take the high road and call the mobile number printed on the back of the bus and lodge a complaint.
Word for word, this is what happened:
(Phone ringing)
Person: Hello?
Me: Yes hi, I want to lodge a complaint about one of your drivers
Person: Which driver?
Me: There’s one of your drivers that just cut across my lane and I want to complain about him
Person: Which bus?
Me: The one with number plate XXXXXX
Person: Where are you now?
Me: I am driving on Emirates Road
Person: WHICH CAR ARE YOU? I AM HERE ON EMIRATES ROAD NOW – WHICH CAR YOU ARE CALLING FROM?
At this point I hung up as I decided that the last thing I needed would be some lunatic barreling down the road at me, but full points for taking constructive criticism!
So much for customer service!
when I was in Dubai it was easier to boycott the company (using social media sites like FB, word of mouth etc) or simply complain to the company.
It did get results, if the company was conscientious enough there would be an apology. Usually cc-ing the traffic police helps. The last thing a company wants is an cheap illegal immigrant driver being deported and a case being filed against them for hiring him…
Wow, that gave me an adrenaline rush–just reading it!
